GET OUT OF THE KITCHEN

GET OUT OF THE KITCHEN

Not meant for the kitchen, no, not at all

Get out of the kitchen

Take a shower at night.
The moment you get up, wash up,
 Get dressed,
Get out
No activity in the kitchen, no, not at all...

Prepare something,
A sandwitch,
A salad,
A something,
At night
Take it with you,
A piece of fruit,
If nothing else,
IF NOT CAPABLE OF MAKING A SANDWITCH AT NIGHT..

FOR SURE NOT CAPABLE

Just take a piece of fruit
Or some nuts
but get out of the kitchen
AND
GET OUT OF THE HOUSE

That's very essential
Especially for you
You are not the type
To be in the kitchen...

YOU GO OUT DARLING
AND READ
AND WRITE
AND
DRAW
AND
THINK
AND
CURSE
PEOPLE
YOU DON'T LIKE
OR
DO NOTHING
BUT
GET OUT OF THE KITCHEN...

THAT'S WHAT YOU ARE MEANT FOR
NOT FOR THE STOVE,
NOT FOR THE SINK,
NOT FOR THE TOILET
NOT FOR THE LAUNDRY
NOT FOR MOPPING
NOT FORDISHES
NOT FOR CLEANING
CLEANING ANYTHING
NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO
GET OUT OF THE KITCHEN DARLING
GET OUT OF THE KITCHEN...

NOT MEANT FOR THE KITCHEN, NO, NOT AT ALL

NOT MEANT FOR THE KITCHEN, NO, NOT AT ALL

MORNING HOURS

MORNING HOURS

Have been realing having trouble with the morning hours.
Getting out of the house too late...
No work done
No satisfaction
No happiness
eautiful sunlight
And not being enjoyed

Time passes and still the kitchen window is occupied
the sunshines rarely
And when it does
Is a sin to sit imside
And miss the great warmth

The warmth which have been thought about
And missed the  whole lousy winter
So what's the problem?
Can't seem to get out early enough
This and that, and then this and that
And then this and that...

Procrastinaatin?
Is that it?
Maybe...
But I guess its
The knee

Knee?
What about the knee?
Hurts.
It hurts
The knee hurts

It won't hurt if you leave the house later?
It will
It will hurt
It will hurt for sure
It hurts all the time

Is that the reason you can't get out of the apt?
Yes, one of the reasons
Its a recent reason
The pain in the knee
Its recent
And at this minute I can't tell you the story
Story of the knee pain
its a ong story
And its a very unusual story
And I a not in the mood
I want to be in a good mood

After getting out of the apt so late
And missing the sunlight as usual
Every day I make a plan to leave
To get out early in the morning
Every day its afternoon
Many times its late in the afternoon
And then its time to get back

Get back to cook
To worry about what to cook
Worry about to cook or eat out?
Where to eat out?
Which restaurant?
Italian or French or Chines or Thi or japenese?
All so expensive...
To eat fish? or to eat a hamburger/
Fish, I guess

Meat causes Coon cancer, they say
Who says so?
Everybody
So eat fish

Fish osts $ 33 to 38 to 42 dollars
That muc?
It depends on where you eat?
Where do you eat?
Thats the question
Fish is expensive no matter where you eat

Most of the seafood, amost all of them
Serve farm fish
AAnd charge 35 dollars?
Yes, they charge 35 to 40 dollars for the fish
For red snapper, $40
For Cod fish $33
For Salmon $37

How can any ine afford it?
Every one, everyone who is a business man ca afford it
Are you a business man?
You are joking, right?
Yes...
So where do you eat?
Thats what I want you to tell me
I don't know more than you
You don't?
No.  I don't

I thought you were smarter than me
Who told you?
You did
You told me that you are an American
Aren't you smarter than me?
Who told you?
Your president told me
Told you waht?
e said, that for you to be smart
You have to be Amercan
And not only American
But white American

And you are not only American but
White American...

You are joking...right?
Arn't you American?
Arn't you white?

I am
So?
So what?

Then you smarter than me
Who told you?
Your president
He ;ies
Oh! so you are not smarter than me?
I think I am samrt
And you are equally smart

I ike you
You are not only American
A white American
A smart American
But a humble American

No American has ever told me that I am smart
No, not possible
Everything is possible in America
I am sure people know that you are smart
They might know but they don't tell me
What do they tell you?
They tell me that I am an Immigrant
What dors that mean?
You are an American and you don't know
You don't know what does the word Immigrant mean?
People who come from another country
Exactly.
So?
So they don't know where to eat...
Why not?
Because the fish is 40 dollars

And?
You can't be stupid, yu are an American
No I am not stupid and it's not because I am an American
But you don't know why an Immigrant can't eat fish
Which costs $ 4o
Why not?

I think we need to get back to knee pain
And the morning hours
First you have to tell me why an Immigrant can't eat fish
An Immigrant can eat fish but has to go to China town to buy it
So go to China town...
But the knee hurts...

Is that the reason that you can't eat fish
Because your knee hurts
I give up on the smartness of a white American
I am yoir friend
I am your only white friend
I am your only white American friend
So you have to tell me  the story of the fish
To eat fish or not to eat fish, thats the question

So you are smar, you know Hamlet
Who is Hamlet?
Please
No, tell me who is hHamlet?
You just said, "To eat fish or not to eat fish?"
Thats the question
What does that mean?
Do you know Hamlet or not?
I don't know Hamlet
Is he/she our friend
Is she/he going to eat fish with you?
Are you going to Chinatown to buy fish?
Or are you going to go out to eat fish in a seafood restaurant?

Is your dady coming to take us out?
My dady is in Washington DC
What is he doig in Washington DC?

Are you smart or stupid?
I am an immigrant
So?
So, you decide
Decide what?
If I am smart or stupid
Right now you are being silly as well as stupid
How come?
You don't know my daddy
I never met your daddy
But you know him
How would I know your dady If I have never met him
But you have met the daddy's daughter

So?
So you must know that the daddy of the daughter
The daughter who is your friend is a senator
Oh! I know there are lots of senators in Washington
And one of them is your dady
Yes, one of them is my daddy

Does your daddy eat fish?
I am sure
Is there a Chinatown in DC?
There is a chinatown in all states
Does he go to Chinatown?
Why should he go to Chinatown?
To buy fish...

Why should he buy fish?
So he can eat healthy food
He eats healthy food
Where?
In a club, in a fancy restaurant, at a party in France

How much the fish costs there?
He doersn't know and he doesn't care
He doesn't pay...

Oh! you see you are smart
Now you know why I can't eat fish
Because I can't pay the price of the fish in a restaurant
And I can't walk to Chinatown to buy the cheaper fish
because my knee hurts...

So thats why you can't go out in the sunshine in the morning
Yes, and other reasons...
What other reasons?

The tea...
Tesa?
Yes, the tea
Tea keeps you away from the morning sun?

More or less
How?
Do I have to explain everything to a smart. white American woman?
Yes
Yes?
Yes, we demand that you explain everything
Why?
Why, because you are my friend
And a friends should explain everything
to another friend wo doesn't understand
the relationship of knee pain with fish, tea ,sun and the morning hours...

Even if you are white and demanding, I do like you
You have no other choice
How come?
You don't have any other friend
I have tons of friends
Where?
In my country
In your country?
You have been here for ever
Where are your friends?

Here...
Where?
Here, you are my friend
Ok, then tell me all these symbolic inyer-related
Relationships of elements such as fish, tea and sunshine

See the difference between you and my friends back home
Is that I don't have to explain every little thing to them
They just understand...
We speak the same language
And every one understand each other

But you have been here a long time and you have no
Friend except me
And I do not understand your language
So why don't you just tell me the meaning of all these
Complicated things?

Oh! well...
Ok, go
Go where?
Explain...

You see, I am Indian
I am an Immigrant
My only connection to my heritage is morning tea...
So when I get up I make myself a cup of tea.
Now I have to drink it...
And I don't know what to do while I drink my tea...

You see back home tea time, morning as well as evening tea time
were the most important and precious and the most enjoyable thing to do

And you never drank tea alone...
Always with your family in the orning
And family and friends in the evening...
And while you were drinking tea you were heavily involved
IN SOME KIND OF CONVERSATION, GOSSIP ABOUT PEOPLE
RELATIVES, FRIENDS, NEIGHBORS, JUST HARMLESS GOSIP
FUNNY GOSSIP AND CRITICISM OF GOVT AND POLITICINS
WE WERE VERY SAMRT AND POLITICAL AND WE LOVED TO LAUGH
SO WE GOSSIPPED ABOUT EVERYTHING AND THAT WAS ALWAYS WHILE WE WEE DRINKING TEA...

So here, in the mighty NYC, whhen you get up
You make yourelf a cup of dargeeling tea or English breakfast tea
to remember that you are a colonized person
That is also your heritage
And as an Indian you want to
Preserve your heritage
So you get up in a tiny apt in NY and make a cup of tea
To remeber that you are an Immigrant from India
But afyer you make that cup of tea
You rember instantly that you are now an American
And free of British Colonialism
So you have to do something American
While you sip your tea...

And since you are all alone by yourself and you have no body
To go

DEEP SLEEP

DEEP SLEEP

And Naz felt extremely tired even after having a strong cup of tea and was pretty much dozing off.

So she got up and lied down on the sofa and immediately fell into a deep sleep which is rare because

she suffers from insomnia of unexplained reason.

And she had a long dream

She sees a close friend of hers who is entering some place familiar, a cafe?, a restaurant? a garden?
a terrace, this girl friend hardly ever has the time to go out because of tough work situation...
They see each other but the girl friend doesn't invite Naz to join her...

Naz goes upstairs, (There are two levels of this place) Naz thinks that she left some utensil upstairs
when she was here last.  The place seems similar to Naz.  Upstairs she finds her small pan, a big tray,
and some lentils and a big table cloth which is very colorful and seems like the fabric is vintage and
from another part of the town.

Then she puts lentils in the table cloth and soak them under a tap and carries the cloth with her and the pan downstairs.  She leaves the big tray behind.  Too big to carry.  She is sad about it because the tray is very beautiful.  While she is in the staircase she finds some dollars there.  She looks up and see a man fixing the ceiling.  Perhaps the money belongs to that man, the thought comes to her but she hesitate to put the money back...she is conflictid but keeps going.

Downstairs seems like a theater.  Lots of people are sitting on all sides surrounding what seems like a pool or perhaps its natural water from the sea in a square lake or a river or a small , very small part
of the sea. On one sid eof the brightly lit space many so called important people sitting there, like
celebrities enjoying the play.  An actress  or whoever ends up on the wrong side of the water after her
earlier exit and later on has no choice but to enter the stage? through water, the water eventually
gets deeper and deeper and she is all the way under it.  Did she drown?  Naz didn't have that feeling in the dream.  People are cheering, it seems like Jane Fonda is also there.  DShe is really enjoying the play and lots of Wanabee's sitting next to her laugh when she does.  But the play seems really funny.

Some one says to Naz that she shouldn't be here because later on there will be lots of bees and it won't be safe for her.  So Naz goes to the other side of this arena and sees her girl friend sitting there.
That place seems more like a cafe and Naz realizes that she hasn't has her coffee yet but her girl friend doesn't offer her any and there is no waitress around.  Naz asks her girl friend, "Where is your daughter?"  And she says, "She is on the other side."  In real life the girl friend has no daughter.
Then the scene abruptly changes.  Naz is in a space whic seems like the lobby of the theater and quite
a few people asks Naz, "Where were you?  The whole audience were howling , author..author..author...why weren't you there?"

Naz said, "I was there but the woman working for the adminstration told me that there are tons of bees coming later on and the place is not safe for you, so I left."

We can't believe it..the adminstration sends the author away whose play is a big success and the whole audience wants to see and cheer the author to congratulate her, why would they do that?"

"No idea."  Naz says while she is still carrying her pan, her table cloth and her lentils and she wakes up...on her sofa and it's 12pm.  She lied down at 9 am...  she must be exhusted...Naz feels rested now
trying to figure out her dream but she is happy that she slept and after a long time experienced deep sleep.
